nature tahitian monoi, unique and certified for over fifteen years (since 1992) tahiti's unique coconut oil, called monoi, is guaranteed by its own certificate of authenticity. this certificate ensures the quality of the oil from its fabrication to its bottling. officially, monoi is "a product obtained by the maceration of tiare flowers in refined coconut oil that has been produced from ripe coconuts that have grown in the coral soils of french polynesia." the coconuts used must be of the nucifera variety and be grown in coral as opposed to volcanic soil. gardenia taitensis, that also must be grown in french polynesia, must be used exclusively. the flowers are picked in a bud stage and are macerated in the oil within 24 hours from being harvested, then left in the brewing monoi for a minimum of ten days. in france, tahitian monoi is the only cosmetic product that has been granted a certificate of authenticity. this shows quite objectively how unique and specific the character of the oil is. within the certification process is a union between the ancient traditions of fabrication and the strict rules imposed by the international cosmetics industry. today, tahitian monoi is becoming more and more widely used by international cosmetic brands as a key ingredient of their products.
