part of the area has been specially set aside to house sick or injured turtles rescued by the association. once the turtles are rehabilitated, they are set free again into the ocean. since its creation, the clinic has already helped some 100 turtles from several islands and 33 have been successfully released. to help ensure the continued success of this association, air tahiti is offering the option to transport some turtles by air. if on an outer island, an injured or sick turtle rescued by the inhabitants can be sent by the personnel of te mana o te moana (tel: 56 40 11 or 71 53 44). if the health of the turtle is too fragile for travel, biologists of veterinarians from the association can voyage themselves to the island and provide the turtle with the necessary care. it should also be noted that air tahiti also helps with other areas within the program of helping sea turtles including protection of nesting sites and more. coral reefs: today's gift for the future : a strong and important message from air tahiti. within its sensitization and learning program, te mana o te moana wishes to also to bring the subject of coral reef protections to all the schools in french polynesia. stretching more that 2,000 km, these reefs are the heart of the county's economy. the health of these fragile reefs depend on the good habits of every major industry, principally tourism, peal farming and fishing. besides direct impact from these sectors, the reefs are also impacted by worldwide menaces such as global warming and pollution. te mana o te moana aims to sensitize the population, and particularly our children since their role will soon be the main determinant of the future of reef protection. this project will include a dvd and comic book presentation that members of the association will help present alongside the teachers throughout tahiti and her islands. to do this, these 'messengers of the environment,' will voyage to many polynesian islands with air tahiti from september 2007 to february 2008. © gie r e v u e d e b o r d n ° 5 6 / a i r ta h i t i / o n - b o a r d m a g a z i n e n ° 5 6 51
