
zoom sur air tahiti / focus on air tahiti generalisation du billet electronique moving forward with electronic ticketing a compter du 1er janvier 2008, les compagnies aeriennes du monde entier devront passer a la generalisation du billet dit electronique. un defi technique et humain pour air tahiti, mais egalement un enjeu capital pour le tourisme polynesien. from january 1st 2008 every airline company in the world must be able to have electronic ticketing capabilities. this feat is both a technical and a human one for air tahiti but is also financial risk for polynesian tourism. texte ludovic lardiere - traduction / translation celeste brash © y.peyronnet - tahiticommunication airline companies such as air tahiti sell tickets in their own offices but also through travel agencies who are a part of iata (international association of air travel), who print and distribute over 300 million paper airline tickets each year around the world. starting from january 1st, 2008, iata will stop issuing paper tickets in travel agencies and will use only electronic tickets - this is much more practical for clients but harder to manage for airline companies. for air tahiti, electronic tickets are filed in a data bank in atlanta georgia, usa with sita (international aeronautical communications corporation). electronic tickets logged here have the same characteristics of their paper equivalents: it's possible to change, exchange and cancel them and more. every change made to the tickets is registered in atlanta. also, to be able to check in a passenger who has an electronic ticket, the airport must have an operating departure control system. this system, which was useful in the time of paper ticketing, is required for electronic ticketing. using electronic tickets from raivavae to ua pou . . so air tahiti has to connect its entire list of destinations through a new system. carrying this through is an enormous feat for the company who serve all of french polynesia islands spread out and isolated over an expanse of ocean as large as all of europe. from raivavae in the austral islands to ua pao in the marquesas, each destination must be able to connect in real time to a base situated in north america some 6000 km away on another continent. a fragile yet complicated organization has been put to work. at the moment, only ten of the most visited destinations have the proper equipment : papeete, moorea, bora bora, raiatea, huahine, maupiti, rangiroa, tikehau, fakarava and manihi. l 56 es compagnies aeriennes comme air tahiti vendent des billets dans leurs agences mais egalement via les agences de voyages pour lesquelles l iata association internationale du transport aerien imprime et distribue, chaque annee, plus de 300 millions de billets d avions papiers dans le monde. a compter du 1er janvier 2008, l iata arretera de distribuer ces billets papiers aux agences de voyages et imposera la generalisation du billet dit electronique, plus pratique et moins difficile a gerer. pour air tahiti, le billet electronique est stocke dans une base de donnees situee a atlanta aux etats-unis, dans les installations de la sita (societe internationale de telecommunication r e v u e d e b o r d n ° 5 6 / a i r ta h i t i / o n - b o a r d m a g a z i n e n ° 5 6
