Q : Baggage allowance
A : Baggage allowance indicates the weight and number of baggage items that you can transport at no extra charge.
• Hand baggage in cabin: - 1 baggage item that respects the following maximum dimensions: 45 cm x 35 cm x 20 cm (17” x 13” x 7”) – including pockets, wheels, and handles
- Maximum total weight: 3 kg (6.6 lb)
Any hand baggage exceeding this weight or size will be checked-in and subject to the existing fares.
The passenger remains responsible for his baggage during all the flight.
• Checked baggage:
Size limit:
Each baggage item must not exceed 150 cm (59'') (height + length + width, wheels and handles included). Any baggage exceeding this size will be checked-in in freight.
Total weight of free-of-charge baggage allowance per person in a limit of 3 items: - Passenger booked in normal fare (Y booking class): 20 kg (44 lb) per person - Passenger booked in special fare (Z booking class): 50 kg (110 lb) per person - Divers: an extra 5 kg (11 lb) allowance is dedicated to divers on ATR flights, for carrying diving equipment only. Proof must be provided at the time of check in (professional card or club certificate). - No baggage allowance for infant.
Q : My baggage exceeds the free allowance
A : If you exceed the baggage allowance, you must purchase an additional baggage allowance. All extras will be accepted according to availability and will be subject to the existing fares.

Once the excess baggage is paid, you will get a receipt. Air Tahiti will strive to transport your excess on the flight you travel on. Nevertheless, because of operational restraints, they could be transported on next flights.
Q : Maximum weight and size for each baggage item
A : Each baggage item must not exceed 25 kg (55 lb) and 150 cm (59'') (height +
length + width, wheels and handles included).
Any baggage item exceeding these limits will not be accepted for the
standard check-in but might be authorized in freight. This restriction may also
apply to voluminous objects (bicycles ...).

Q : I have a connecting flight, do I have to pick up my luggage?
A : All passengers have to pick up their luggage, clear customs, and present themselves to the Air Tahiti domestic check-in counter, situated on the right side (after customs).
Q : Storage baggage...
A : The storage baggage is located at the Faa'a international airport, behind the "Fare Mama" (hut where tahitian women sell flower/shell leis). To have more information.
Q : I travel with voluminous luggage...
A : Voluminous luggage such as surfboards are not accepted at check-in. They can be transported by freight only if the length does not exceed 1,80m (70'') and depending of the availability of the flight (they may travel on a different flight than the one you are travelling on, or on another day...). Q : Delayed or damaged baggage
A : If you see any damage to your baggage or if it is delayed in its
delivery, you must immediately report to one of our agents upon the
island of arrival. He will help you fill out a "lost or
damaged baggage report".
AIR TAHITI will determine the amount of the compensation according to
the elements indicated in this document and the conditions of the
transportation contract. Compensation is based on the assess damage or
your baggage weight, not on the contents.
Delayed Baggage: In cases where the delay exceeds 24
hours, AIR TAHITI will offer an immediate compensation of 5,000 F CFP
per person. In the following days, should you have travelled to another
island, AIR TAHITI will transfer your baggage to the airport of this
new island. If after 7 days your luggage has still not been located, it
will be considered lost. AIR TAHITI will then compensate you on the
basis of the information that you have indicated in the "lost baggage
report". In accordance with the Warsaw convention, the maximum amount
of compensation is based on the weight of your baggage.

Q : My state of health requires the carrying of syringes in my hand luggage:
A : If your condition requires it, you can travel with syringes in your hand luggage. To do this, you must:
- Mention the presence of needles in your hand luggage when booking your ticket
- Bring a medical certificate stating the need to keep your needles in hand luggage
- Place the syringes in a box and leave them in their original packaging.
- Submit your syringes and medical certificate to our agents and security officers at each stage of your journey:
- check-in
- boarding
- on board our aircraft
- Keep your syringes under supervision for the duration of the flight and inform the crew in case of loss or theft.
Q : Regulations concerning lithium batteries carriage
A : Consumer electronic items (watches, calculators, photo and video cameras, cellular phones, laptop computers, etc…) containing lithium or ionic lithium batteries for a personal use are allowed in cabin luggage, checked luggage or on yourself. Spare batteries have to be individually protected in order to avoid any short circuit and only carried in cabin baggage.
Moreover, each spare battery has to respect the following quantities : - a) for metal lithium or lithium alloy batteries, a lithium quantity not exceeding 2g, or
- b) for ionic lithium batteries weighting 25g or more, a total equivalent lithium quantity not exceeding 8g, or
- c) for ionic lithium batteries weighting less than 25g, limitation to 2 spare batteries per person.
Q : Information regarding your baggage...
A : Your baggage will be exposed to a lot of handling. It should be prepared in order to protect its contents. We strongly recommend a tightly fastened suitcase without detachable parts.
Your baggage must be locked with any device avoiding its opening after its check-in
Your names and address are mandatory on your baggages. Baggage tags are available at check-in counters Make sure to insert another name tag inside your baggage.
Do not check-in the following: your medication, objects which are fragile or are valuable (such as cameras, computers, jewellery, checks, money...), and/or important documents. Keep them in your carry-on.
The baggage packing is under the responsibility of the passenger. Air Tahiti disclaims responsibility for all fragile, valuable, or perishable articles packed in the checked-in baggage.
Unclaimed baggage: Unclaimed baggage will be stored for 3 months, after which will be given to charity.
When baggage is not in accordance with the advices hereabove mentioned, and incompatible with the conditions of aerial carriage, like for instance:
- Inadequate packaging (fishing rod without case, bouquet, bread bag, parcel incorrectly packed…),
- Fragile or containing fragile items (surfboard, bike, cake, oar, glass bottle…),
- Damaged baggage,
- Baggage checked-in late,
- Baggage not allowed in cabin, etc…
this baggage is refused to carriage.
However, Air Tahiti, aware of the lack of means of transport toward the islands, will exceptionally accept to carry your baggage, but by accepting it in limited release. This acceptance will be made under the check-in agent opinion only, and will be indicated by a baggage tag “Limited release”.
In case of carriage acceptance under limited release, Air Tahiti will not be liable for damage your baggage or its contents could suffer.
Q : Traveling with a domestic animal
A : Any animal can travel on
Air Tahiti, with the exception of:
- Dogs of 1st and 2nd categories (Rottweillers, pitbulls and
mastiffs) or dogs showing signs of aggressiveness
- Bovines
- Animals with strong nauseating odors such as ducks, goats
and pigs
- Rats
- Florida green turtles
- Blackbirds and bulbuls
- Animals
protected by the Washington
Convention
The animal must be reported atreservation, whether traveling in the
hold or cabin.
According to its specie and your islands of arrival and departure,
a certificate allowing your pet to travel should be issued by
the
Department of Rural Development (Service de Développement Rural - SDR).

The rate applied
is that of excess baggage with a minimum charge of 800 F, whether the
animal travels in hold or cabin. This tax applies even if you have not
reached the baggage allowance.
Your pet will have to be installed in a container approved for air
transport.
Characteristics of the container :
- Ventilation through holes or grid (avoiding the
animal biting or pinching through the opening)
- Waterproof bottom with litter or any other material which
absorbs liquid dejections
- Materials allowed: plastic, metal or wood
To have your animal travel peacefully, we recommend, on the advice
of your veterinarian, to administer a sedative to avoid in-flight
reaction.
Animal in the cabin:
Some animals (dogs, cats, rodents, freshwater fishes and freshwater
turtles) are allowed in the cabin, on ATR only, if they can be
installed in a container whose dimensions comply with the conditions of
acceptance of cabin luggage (45 x 35 x 20 cm) and if
their
weight is
less than 8kg.
Only a passenger over 18 may travel with a pet
in cabin.
The
animal should not be in free movement. In case of
inconvenience,
it could be placed in the hold on the decision of the captain.
The animal must travel in a container meeting the criteria listed above.
Special cases:
- Freshwater fishes should be placed in a waterproof
container with a double bottom
(plastic bag + cooler or equivalent) with 3 liters of water maximum.
- Freshwater turtles, if they are transported in water, must
be
placed in a waterproof container with a double bottom (no lid
jar + cooler or
equivalent) with 3 liters of water maximum.
- To ensure the tranquility of travelers, birds, roosters,
hens and chicks must travel as checked baggage.
Animal in the hold:
Animals over 8 kg and/or which dimensions do not allow to
install them
in a container complying with the conditions of acceptance of cabin
baggage (45 x 35 x 20 cm), must travel as checked baggage.
In the case the cage and the animal were more than 25 kg (55 lbs) or if they
exceeded the maximum size of checked baggage (length + width + height =
150cm), they could not be accepted at check-in.
However, they can be transported by freight, in some cases. We invite
you to contact our Freight Department in advance to make reservations

Depending on the length of the journey, the owner must arrange for the
supplying of his animal.
Animals can also be transported by air freight (unaccompanied) in
respect
of travel conditions associated and defined by the freight service.
Their carriage is subject to the prevailing freight rate.

Transport of guide dogs
for blind people
Guide dogs for blind people travel in the hold under the same
conditions listed under "Animals in the hold."
It may however be accepted in the cabin, on exceptional agreement of
the captain.
Its transportation is free.
Q : I wish to send plants and/or vegetables to the islands
A : Plants and/or vegetables can be accepted on AIR TAHITI flights. They must be in a leak-proof package which protects them. Before departure from Tahiti to all the other islands, a phytosanitary inspection is mandatory.
